The èƵ Concert Band will present its fall performance, “Tides of Grace and Splendor,” on Friday, November 21, at 7 p.m. in the Concert Hall of the Jack H. Miller Center.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
“Tides of Grace and Splendor” charts a sweeping musical voyage through God’s unchanging sovereignty amidst the restless currents of human endeavor. The program includes works by Gustav Holst, George Frideric Handel, Frank Ticheli and Jaime Texidor, each reflecting themes of grace, hope and renewal.
The concert invites listeners to journey from the pastoral serenity of Holst to the regal splendor of Handel, reminding us that God’s grace flows abundantly to all who seek Him (Psalm 145). The luminous promise of Ticheli’s Amazing Grace and the exuberant energy of Texidor’s Amparito Roca affirm that God’s renewing power holds us fast and carries us to safety (Psalm 29:10, Isaiah 40:31). Together, these works celebrate the abiding grace and sustaining power of God through all seasons of life.
The Concert Band is under the direction of Dr. Anand Raj Sukumaran, who is an assistant professor of music and director of bands at Hope and teaches courses in secondary-level instrumental music methods and administration, brass and woodwind techniques, folk guitar and world music.
