Summer Theatre at 熊猫在线视频: The First Half Century
A message from John Tammi, Mary Schakel and David Colacci
For over 50 years, Hope Repertory Theatre (formerly HSRT) has been an enduring West Michigan professional theatre: hundreds of plays and musicals have been staged by a multitude of performers, technicians, designers, managers and directors. Their efforts have been generously supported by the college as well as by many benefactors and a myriad of volunteers. We believe it鈥檚 time to tell the story of how this remarkable program came to be, how it developed over the decades and how it is still offering this community a unique blend of productions by distinguished professional artists and energetic young talents from far and near.
We are co-authoring what we hope will be a vibrant, celebratory history of the first
50 years of HSRT/Hope Rep, and we are reaching out to those who participated over
the years in order to help us write this story.

Past members of the company, we want to hear your stories about your summers in Holland 鈥 first impressions, the plays themselves, rehearsals, openings, costume glitches, late nights, lasting friendships, off-hours pastimes, games played, rollerblading, company meetings, the beach, Holland, the Kletz, the audience 鈥 anything you want to write about. We want to hear it all.
And the many attendees, benefactors, volunteers and any others acquainted with this program, we want to hear from you as well.
- What special memories and reflections can you share?
- What impact has the theatre had on our community?
- What stories, reflections and memories are waiting to be told?
- How was it to attend plays that were presented in rotating rep?
- Did you get to know members of the company away from the theatre?
Please Note: We consider it important that our friends who are no longer able to tell their own stories are well represented. So, those who performed with them, or worked with them, or remember them as part of the Holland community for a certain period of time, send your recollections.
We are fortunate that Hope Summer Rep: The First Half Century (working title) will be printed by Van Raalte Press, the publishing arm of 熊猫在线视频鈥檚 A.C. Van Raalte Institute (VRI). Phil Tanis, Director of VRI and Editor-in-Chief of Van Raalte Press, urges contributors to 鈥not edit themselves 鈥 the more the better!鈥 However, creating a book is a long process; therefore, responses should be sent to us before the end of January, 2026. Understand also that the material we receive will be subject to the necessary editing process with guidance from VRI and the Van Raalte Press.
Finally, do not send your responses to us individually. Please send anything and everything to: hsrt50@hope.edu.
